After posting yesterday I realized that I had put out many resources, but for many I think this could be very overwhelming, especially if many of these web 2.0 pieces are new to you. So, I think that I will post a bit each day on how I am utilizing each source.
Today's topic will be how to use NING, the NECC NING in order to access your specific area of interest and use the tools and resources available.
The first thing I recommend you do on NING is to edit your profile and get your page completely setup with at least 1 discussion of your interest area and 1 blog to share about your learning experience as you go through the conference. Do not forget to add tags on your blog, you will see why in a moment.
After your profile is updated and you have added a bit of content to your page, including your twitter handle or web page (etc.) you are ready to reach out and network.
I began by clicking on members and then using the Search at the top of the page (on the left) to search out people I know that may be going or following the NECC event. Once I found them I placed a friend request with a message. (See left hand column under their pic).
Next I wanted to find some groups and conversations that were happening around my interest area. So I clicked on groups tab. Again type in keywords in the search box. This is where your tags come in handy. If you have tagged your blog comment accurately, your post should come up. (You may want to go back and add tags so others can find you!)
If you have not had enough yet, than you will want to head over to the Blog tab and do the same!
If you can think of other ways to use NING to better help you participate virtually, please comment.
