Hi Melanie. Come and talk to Jim Frye, tech. dirc. at Upper Sandusky (OH) School Dist, about your transition from literacy coach to digital lit coach. He is using a social learning network that is embedded with literacy (across all subject domains). He'll be hanging out at booth 6029, that's for saywire. I think if you ask him about how he has successfully propagated web 2.0 in his school, it will be helpful to you, no matter what tools and services you use. I'm attaching a file here to give you an understanding of what he's been using. junesaywire-brochure.pdf
Thanks, Melanie, for describing the transition in roles. Our literacy coaches do most of what you do and are in charge of analyzing data with a literacy assessment tool developed by our group called S.T.E.P. Our grade 3-5 coach also works with another tool developed by our colleagues called Readers Response. Our coaches are pretty tech savvy, but are not necessarily up on the latest in terms of integration. So that's where I come in and we've also hired a part-time tech (a couple days a month) coach to work specifically on literacy initiatives. We're trying to build tighter partnerships the tech and literacy coaches in general. By the way, I work with one school as a tech coach a couple of days a week and the rest of my time is allocated towards developing and implementing a professional development program across all of our campuses and affiliated network schools.
So Melanie, tell me about your new job as a digital literacy coach. How is it going to change from being a literacy coach? I'm very curious as we have tech coaches and literacy coaches in my organization.
