About Me:
I'm brand new to technology, especially Web 2.0. I've always used computers as a glorified typewriter and sometimes research tool. After having children, it also became a way to record those "kodak" moments digitally and archive them. However, my newest endeavor is learning how to use technology effectively in my 5th grade classroom to promote both better communication and more enthusiasm.

Melanie I think your Twitter account has been hijacked. I received the following twitter spam from your account. You might log in and change your password. Please let me know if you figure out what happened. I'd suspect a malicious website masquerading as a twitter service captured your user password and is using it.

Super! I hope that you can see some info there and also in our website, www.epals.com. Also our teacher forums have some ideas. Let me know if you have specific questions. I am also asking my colleague, Kari Stubbs, to share some YouTube and other resources that are created by some of our ePals teachers.

We are having an ePals conference in Boston on July 15, and after that we will post some presentations and podcasts that should also be very helpful to you. Stay in touch!

Hi Melanie -
Thanks! He's almost 3 months now and he's a sweetheart.
This past year I received a small grant and so I had my students animate events from the Revolutionary War. Students were in groups of three and they planned and sketched out their animation - down to who was creating which characters and what they would look like. Actually creating the clay figures took longer than I had anticipated, and by then most groups had lost/misplaced their planning form including the script. So, unfortunately, due to maternity leave, only one made it to the creation stage. I anticipate things will go better next year as I will have more time to see the project through.
The websites my classes have created are linked to my school website (click on "CASE/COMPUTE" - the CASE sites are all science based and COMPUTE sites are math based).
I'd love to share ideas this next year. Do you by any chance use epals with your students?

Hi Melanie
I hope you are finding useful sessions and great ideas at NECC. I also teach 5th grade, but a new baby kept me home this year. I'm online trying to keep up this way.
