Hello
This is the first time for me to participate in the sites of my country, foreign language and different language may be the biggest problem I have, but I'm optimistic, even if I am a new site that I want to know the new people from all over the world for the exchange of cultures, knowledge and interest, I hope that you always find new friends here and I a sincere friend to all and thank you very much.

Thanks for the reference to the Students Without Borders article. Good PR for ePals. It struck me as I was reading the article that perhaps ePals could partner in some fashion with Oracle Education Foundation's (OEF)ThinkQuest competition (see http://www.thinkquest.org/en/). Student participants are encouraged to have diverse teams, including students from other countries. As a judge in the competition for the past three years, I see many student teams struggling first to find students from outside their location to be team members as they don't have a way to "advertise" for team members to other students in other countries. Second, even once a student team is formed, it can struggle with intra-team communication because of different schedules, different time zones, etc. It would seem a good match - the proverbial win-win - for ePals to partner with OEF. I can put you in touch with the appropriate OEF staffers if ePals is interested. Let's talk at NECC.

The Washington Post has a terrific article today about students and global collaboration.
Students Without Borders
Online Communication Facilitates Global Collaboration at Area Schoolshttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/23/AR2009062303440.html

A team of very smart teenagers has set out to discover ways that maggots might make the world a better place. Two are from Loudoun County. Two live more than 9,000 miles away in Singapore.

To many U.S. politicians, educators and business leaders, Singapore's students have become a symbol of the fierce competition the nation faces from high achievers in Asia. But these four students call themselves "international collaborators" and friends.

ePals will be at NECC! We will have a booth. Tim DiScipio, ePals founder, and I, will be doing some presentations in the Intel booth also. And we are giving a peek under the tent at a new ePals offering, which has been developed with much input from teachers in Queens and Brooklyn through the spring of 2009. Let me know if you would like to get a preview from Victoria McEachern during NECC. And I expect lots of virtual birthday cards on my birthday, June 28! (grins)

Read two exciting, global announcements made July 15:
Kenya Ministry of Education to Use ePals to Connect Kenyan Schools Worldwide

Studywiz Spark and ePals Team Up to Provide Enhanced Learning Opportunities on a Global Scale

One paragraph from the Kenyan announcement:"We've watched the impact some of our schools are having using ePals and feel it is critical we empower all our educators and students to collaborate with peers around the world," said Barnabas Sang, Head of ICT for the Kenyan Ministry of Education.

Studywiz Spark creates an enriched learning environment for students. The Studywiz Spark Dynamic LearnSpace differs from traditional learning management systems in that it is built from the ground up for K-12 teachers, learners and parents to take full advantage of rich multimedia content and the latest technologies. StudyWiz Spark is a product of Etech Group, an Australian-owned software development company that specializes in K-12 online learning technology for schools and organizations.

Helen Crompton Comment by Helen Crompton on July 1, 2008 at 4:32pm
Hi, I only had a few minutes and you were busy at your booth. I collected the information and I am quite excited. I moved from England to NC two years ago and I have had nightmare upon nightmare at making connections even to people I know in my own country. I am excited about epals.
Cory Plough Comment by Cory Plough on June 30, 2008 at 1:41pm
